When the 5,000 were hungry and hopeless Jesus said to the disciples "They do not need to go away. YOU GIVE them something to eat" (Matthew 15:16).
When someone comes to us in need of their life to be changed, in need of an impossibility or miracle, we CANNOT walk away! We cannot send them away for a later date, or think they will find Jesus another way. We have the ability and power to give them the bread of LIFE! It is our selfless faith which makes all things possible through Christ Jesus. We love Him therefore, we love those that He loves. He said, YOU give them something to eat! It is my responsibility, your responsibility, no one else's.
The next statement is amazing... The disciples said to Jesus, "we only have this much...Jesus said: bring it here to me" (Matthew 14:17). No matter how small what we have is compared to the impossibility, He commands us as His disciples to bring it to Him. It is in our simple compassion and willingness to act in faith that makes the impossible possible!
We cannot ever try to do it in our own strength; (Thanks God!) but that does not excuse us from doing anything at all. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says "His strength is made perfect in our weakness". We are called to give people Jesus, whose power is limitless to change their life and give them freedom and hope!
I pray we do not send away the next person that asks us for the bread of freedom, hope or a miracle. I pray that we realize Jesus gave us the responsibility and power to see them through as we bring every impossibility to Him who moves mountains!
