Right now is the season of mango harvest... so we came home to over a hundred and fifty mangos falling a day (I started counting 😳)
During the cleanup I started thinking about harvest... at first I was excited. I thought we could eat all the falling mangos. After cutting up several and them all being bruised and messed up, I realized I wasn't going to find a good, ripe mango from the ground, I would have to handpick it from the tree.
I thought about how the harvest of souls is very similar... A lot of times we can be so focused on our day to day lives and not be intentional about harvesting the harvest of souls around us. Waves of people are ready to be ministered to. They are CRYING out for the REAL JESUS.
Our unintentional apathy allows the harvest around us to fall to a place of brokenness where it is very unlikely they will come back from.
A lot of people had open hearts in the past, yet because no one was there to see there heart, to intentionally pick them out and cultivate a relationship and lead them to Jesus, they have fallen. Now they are bruised, cracked open, or gotten eaten from the inside until they were so rotten they disintegrated.
Let's not be the Christians that wait to clean up the mess of rotten mangos... or let them hit us over the head when they are falling... let us be those who pray and intentionally seek out the harvest. Let's HAND PICK people and PURSUE them, to be a friend before they are, to pray for them, to be a safe place.
Jesus said in Matthew 9:35 "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few." If the harvest is plentiful that means there are MANY ready to come into the Kingdom of God. Ready to be rescued and given hope.
Have you ever seen a garden with tomatoes, or watermelon or corn that wasn't harvested? The harvest doesn't just stay there forever, it rots.
Harvest signifies a time period. A window of opportunity with fruit or veggies ripe for the taking... That means Jesus uses the term "Harvest" with URGENCY!
Let us have an urgency in our hearts. Let us see the harvest as it is... people that will be destroyed unless we step in and start working. It can be uncomfortable, embarrassing, and awkward to start with. If we value the people around us who are not saved, our loved ones and friends, we will go beyond our comfort zone to give them an opportunity to know the real Jesus.
