Trusting God

It is an amazing feeling to step out in complete faith. Leave your job, your family, and all the things that bring you comfort to do exactly what God called you to do. It’s scary and exciting, senseless and logical, uncertain and defined all at the same time. It causes you to question everything. But, if done fully without reservation will answer the deepest ponderings of your soul. Above all it invokes such grandiose responses from the heart of God you’ll find yourself humbly breathless before Him. You’d be lucky to muster up even the smallest amount of composure between tears and laughter to slip out a simple “Thank You”. I think I speak truthfully for my wife and myself when I say this is how these last six months have felt.

While I could dive deep into multiple details of God’s faithfulness to us I really want to focus on two specifically. The reason why I choose these two examples is because they were done with YOUR willingness to believe in God’s call on our life. Whether you support us financially or through prayer you’ve helped to make this possible!

First, lets talk about our camper! Right now it would be uneconomical to purchase a house that we would maybe see once a year, so like most missionaries we began looking into campers. For months we studied the different types of travel trailers. We visited camper lots. We looked inside of every conceivable make and model, until we had an idea of what would serve us the best. After receiving wisdom from people we trust with these types of decisions we made our choice! We took money out of the bank, confidently walked into the office of a camping world salesmen, slapped our money on the table, and found out the camper we wanted was junk. The manager came to us and told us about its leaky roof, broken appliances, water damage, and what he deemed as “unsolvable problems”. Once he told us all of this Micaela spoke up. “Well, we’re missionaries, so we need something that’s going to be completely reliable.” It was amazing how drastically this man’s demeanor changed. “Oh, you’re missionaries?” He continued, “You didn’t tell me! We have a completely different price range for missionaries.” He went on to tell us that he had been in ministry for twelve years until some life altering events took place. Because of his history he was determined to make sure any missionary that came through his door was made a priority. After a few discussions and a walk through we found a camper that sincerely felt like home. When we sat back down in the salesmen’s office the manager removed $10,000 off the price to meet our budget! And we pulled off the lot with a beautiful 2003 35ft Cameo Carriage Fifth Wheel!

Now, if you’ve seen the truck that I drive you might be thinking we really put the cart before the horse, but thank God He doesn’t do anything half way. A few weeks before we purchased our camper we really started praying about our truck situation. We knew that if we wanted a home we could use to bless other missionaries with, our truck wasn’t going to cut it. On October 17th I went to a Ford dealership accompanied by my dad with every intention of ONLY test-driving a couple trucks. Within a few moments of being on the lot I was sitting behind the wheel of a beautiful fire engine red 2013 F-250 with a 6.7-liter diesel engine, 4 wheel drive, BFG all terrain tires, and only 10,000 miles! I knew this was our truck, but at a $55,000 value I thought, “I got faith, but I ain’t got that much faith.” Nonetheless, I went forward with purchasing that truck.

The first miracle that took place was trading in my Tacoma. Since we still had several years left on payments we should have received nothing in return for my truck. Instead they paid off what was left on the truck and gave us $6,000 on top of the trade in value. After some negotiations we got a $55,000 truck down to $39,000! That’s still a lot of money, but I knew in my heart we were supposed to go through with the deal. We filled out all the paperwork, and when I finally had the truck in my name I received a call from one of our supporters. We talked for a few moments then finally he said, “I’m calling because I feel in my heart I am supposed to increase your support for the purpose of you having a payment for a better truck.” This guy literally had no idea that we even needed a truck! I said, “Well, I have great news. We just purchased a new truck and the amount you are giving us is the amount of the car payment!”

We serve such an incredible Father! He looks out for us. He cares for every detail! Everyone’s journey is so different, but He has so much for us if we just trust in Him. Micaela and I are beyond humbled that God heard our prayers, saw our needs, and met them in such an extravagant way.

Not only do we thank God, but also we thank all those who faithfully pray over us! Thank you to everyone who faithfully reads our monthly prayer requests! Thank you to all who give of their time and resources to make launching us into the nations possible!
